As part of a contest posted on Facebook and Twitter, a reader of Zombie Exodus wrote a walkthrough of the final battle scene in chapter 5 as well as guidelines for achieving all nine endings. This walkthrough and guide was written by Natalie, whose prize will be to create a recurring non-player character in Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven.
I have also written some extra tips written after each section. And now, the walkthrough…
General – Winning the Final Battle
This is a general guideline on how to survive the final exodus at the end of Part V. Surviving is most easily done with a large group. As for battle placements, these have never failed me:
- Mindy – catwalk
- Heather – catwalk
- Devlin – firing as they pass through the inner doors
- Eugene – catwalk
- Crone – firing from cover
- Emma – firing from cover
- Candace – firing as they pass through the inner doors
- River – firing as they pass through the inner doors
(JimD’s tip: If Tom is in your group, have him fire at the inner doors. Devlin is best from cover.)
Ending One – The Summit
Summary: Carl brings your character and your group to live in a community atop a summit.
Required Stats: Carl is alive, you helped Carl escape in Part IV, Candace is with your group.
In order for Carl to take your group to the Summit, you must first help him escape in Part IV. When you go to visit him, he will ask you for help. You have to accept and follow through with this escape plan. Now, you must ensure that Candace stays alive through the battle at the end of Part IV. At the beginning of the huge battle, make sure you do not run off to the supply room otherwise she will die. When prompted to protect Mindy or Candace, choose Candace – Mindy can take care of herself.
At the end of Part V, you must choose to leave the Cathedral. If you are going to choose what survivors to bring with you, Candace must be included in this selection. Finally, When asked to choose between heading to the coastline or the lagoon, go to the coastline and choose to go with Carl.
Ending Two – BayTown
Summary: Jason brings your character and your group to live in a small town on the beach where zombie activity is relatively low.
Required Stats: Intelligence – 20+, Strength – 20+, Dexterity – 25+, decent relationship with Jason (JimD tip: relationship with Jason must be 60 or better).
To achieve this ending, Jason MUST be alive in Part V. This means that you have to stop Carl from killing him at the beginning of Part IV. After the group meeting, follow Jason and Carl to the Sanctuary, or help Uncle Lou clean up. Either option will allow you to save Jason. You must meet the required stats above in order to intervene. Choose “Move in closer in case you need to intervene” and “Restrain Carl before he inflicts more damage” to save Jason. After saving Jason, do not help Carl escape.
At the end of Part V, you must choose to leave the Cathedral. When asked to choose between heading to the coastline or the lagoon, go to the coastline and choose to go with Jason.
Ending Three – New Command
Summary: Your character reconciles with an old friend from the military. They bring you and your group to a safe haven called Command.
Required Stats: Soldier profession
This ending is easy to obtain. It is necessary for your character to be a soldier. In Part V, you must leave the Cathedral and head to the lagoon instead of the coastline. The ending will play itself out from there.
Ending Four – Hidden Bunker
Summary: Your character and your group discover a hidden underground government bunker and take residence in it.
Required Stats: Any profession except soldier
This ending will occur if you leave the Cathedral at the end of Part V. If you failed to meet the requirements for The Summit, BayTown, or New Command endings, this will be the default ending for leaving the Cathedral. For example, if you helped Carl escape but Candace is dead, he will not take you to The Summit, and this ending will happen instead. If you want to aim for this ending specifically, leave the Cathedral at the end of Part V and head to the lagoon instead of the coastline.
Ending 5 – Become a Zombie
Summary: Your character awakens as a zombie in a lab. The events that happened at the Cathedral were nothing more than a hallucination. The characters around you turn out to be scientists performing tests on you.
Required stats: Tom is alive
The two most important factors for this ending are for Tom to be alive, and for you to stay at the Cathedral. It does not matter if you have a vaccine created; if Tom is alive, this ending WILL occur. In order to keep Tom alive, do not shoot him and stop River from stabbing him. Survive the final exodus battle at the end of Part V, and stay at the Cathedral.
(JimD’s tip: this ending leads to the Zombie Nightmare achievement).
Ending 6 – Become a Raider
Summary: Your character stays at the Cathedral and joins a group of raiders along with Mindy and Badger.
Required stats: Humanity below 40, Badger is part of the group, Tom is gone.
It’s imperative for your character to have a low humanity score for this ending. It’s easiest to start by doing immoral actions from the very beginning: not helping Candace/Mindy, ignoring Cassie on the way to Heather’s house, killing Dave, stealing from a stranger’s belongings in the Old Pine Woods mission, etc. At the end of Part IV in the battle, let the raiders in. After you win the battle, in Part V, side with Badger and be nice to him. When you go talk to everyone, Badger will suggest raiding other groups for food. Agree with this idea. Once you return from the van crash, you MUST kill Tom, or let River stab him. This can be achieved by shooting him in private or in front of everyone. If you do not kill him yourself, do not say anything when River moves to stab Tom. Stay at the Cathedral once you survive the Exodus.
Ending 7 – The Chosen
Summary: Your group stays at the Cathedral. One day, Emma is bitten, but you are able to save her through the power of prayer. Your group becomes known as The Chosen.
Required stats: Good relationship with Eugene, Eugene is in group, Tom is gone
In Part IV, make sure that you go on the mission to Temperance with Mindy and recruit Devlin and Eugene back to your group. In Part V, when you are talking with the survivors, Eugene will ask you if you believe in a higher power. Say yes. When he tells you that he has been talking to God, choose the option that says that you believe he is talking to God. Survive the Exodus and stay at the Cathedral.
Ending 8 – Develop the Vaccine
Summary: Your group stays at the Cathedral. One day, Emma is bitten, but you are able to save her with the vaccine you created in Part IV.
Required stats: Scientist profession, Devlin at the Cathedral, create a successful vaccine, Tom is gone
This is one of the harder endings to achieve. It all goes back to Part III. When you initially go to Temperance with Mindy for the first medicine run, ask Eugene how he met Devlin. Next, select “I get the impression you don’t want Devlin here. Is that true?” in order for Devlin to confess that he was bitten. Choose “Discuss this more before making a decision” to collect a sample from him. In Part IV, make sure that you go on the mission to Temperance with Mindy and recruit Devlin and Eugene into your group.
(JimD’s tips: it kind of sucks that I made it this hard to get the ending but if you got this ending, you really achieved something few people have gotten. You saved the world!)
For the vaccine creation scene in Part IV, these options will lead to a successful cure:
- Examine Devlin’s blood sample
- Examine the severed zombie hand specimen
- Further examine the virus sample
- Analyze the specimen from the strange ooze found on the fuel vessel
- Store it again for later use
- Work on creating a vaccine for the virus
- Choose Vaccine D
Make sure that Tom is dead, survive the Exodus at the end of Part V, and stay at the Cathedral.
Ending 9 – Settle in Temperance
Summary: Your group stays at the Cathedral. One day, Emma is bitten. Because you have not created a vaccine and you are not the Chosen, she dies.
This will be the default ending if you stay at the Cathedral, Tom is gone, and you didn’t meet the criteria for any of the other stay at the Cathedral endings. If you didn’t create a successful vaccine and didn’t believe in Eugene, for example, it will trigger this ending. It’s quite simple to achieve: don’t create a vaccine, don’t believe Eugene, don’t take in Badger, and make sure that Tom dies. Survive the Exodus, and you’re good to go.
(JimD’s tip: this is my favorite ending and what I consider the “good” ending.)
